On a quiet weekday, several mountains may work. On a powder Saturday or holiday weekend, the wrong call can mean a full lot, long waits, and fewer runs than you expected.

WhereToSkiNext looks at the whole ski day for the date you choose, not just the snowfall total.

What goes into your score

Every mountain gets one score for your selected ski day. It combines six things:

Snow

The forecast for your ski day, plus how reliably the mountain holds snow.

Skiability

Temperature and wind, because good snow can still make for a difficult day.

Terrain fit

Vertical, acreage, and trails compared with the type of mountain you selected.

Drive

Real driving time from your starting point.

Value

Walk-up ticket price. If your pass covers the mountain, ticket price does not count against it.

Crowds

Expected crowd pressure based on the mountain, ski date, weather, snowfall, and regional demand.

Crowd estimates are predictions, not live turnstile counts. We look at nearby population, pass networks, destination demand, weekends, holidays, fresh snow, weather, lift capacity, and parking.

The confidence tag shows how much information supports the estimate. High confidence means we have both a current forecast and your location. Low confidence means the estimate relies on fewer signals.

Your priority buttons change the calculation, not just the order of the results. Forecasts refresh throughout the day, drive times use real routing, and rankings update when the inputs change.

Rankings cannot be bought

No mountain can pay to rank higher. Sponsors are labeled, and sponsorship never affects the score.
