Wildcat has one of the best settings in Eastern skiing. Looking across at Mount Washington never gets old, and the mountain still has an old-school feel that makes a run feel longer than the trail count suggests. The catch is that Wildcat lives in real weather, and real weather gets a vote.
On the right day, Wildcat is simple in the best sense. Long runs, good pitch, a classic New Hampshire feel, and scenery that makes other mountains look like they were built in a parking lot. It is not overly complicated, and it does not need to be.
The same exposure that gives Wildcat its drama can also make it difficult. Wind, cold, lift issues, or scraped-off surfaces can change the recommendation quickly. This is a mountain where the forecast matters more than the brand name.
