Cannon does not always make skiing easy, and that is why strong skiers respect it. It can be cold, windy, firm, and blunt. It can also deliver one of the best public-mountain ski days in the East when the snow, visibility, and wind all cooperate. Cannon is not a comfort pick. It is a conditions pick.
The mountain has a directness that many resorts have lost. The terrain feels exposed, the fall lines feel honest, and the place carries more ski history than base-area polish. On a good day, Cannon makes smoother resorts feel a little soft.
The problem is that Cannon's best qualities can turn against you fast. Wind holds, hard snow, and low visibility can make the day feel more like a test than a treat. It belongs high on the list for the right skier, not every skier.
